How would you feel if you knew the whole truth about the governments that run our countries, and their malign agendas that serve to control the people? No matter how much you think you trust the people in power, there will always be some suspicion at the back of your mind that they are usually up to no good.
Time after time people have come out with theories about how harmful the governments’ agendas can be, be it the U.S. or any other country in the world. It feels like they are all somehow connected in a web of lies that serve to perpetuate their power and our blindness.
Investigative journalist Gary Webb found himself in such scenario where he would uncover truths that many consider to be too wild to be real. As he says in Into the Buzzsaw, all his bliss in his career, all the awards, TV shows, raises, and success had been “sadly misplaced” when he realized that he hadn’t written “anything important enough to suppress.”
Namely, Gary Webb was a journalist who decided to take a step further by looking for answers that lay hidden in Government and CIA plots, which he claimed to have sparked the crack cocaine epidemic in North America during the 80’s and 90’s.
After getting his hands on secret grand jury transcripts in 1996, he started following the clues and reached informants who led him to the conclusion that the crack epidemic in the USA was caused with the purpose of funding CIA-trained and supported terrorists in Nicaragua.
The terrorist group known as Contra was supported by the US Government with the intent to overthrow the Sandinista government, the same government which ousted the US-backed military dictatorship of the Somoza Dynasty.
His Dark Alliance series which were published in August 1996 contained all the conclusions and allegations against CIA’s plot to fund a terrorist group at the expense of American citizens.
“FOR THE BETTER PART of a decade, a San Francisco Bay Area drug ring sold tons of cocaine to the Crips and Bloods street gangs of Los Angeles and funneled millions in drug profits to a Latin American guerrilla army run by the U.S. Central Intelligence Agency, a Mercury News investigation has found,” reads the first paragraph of the Dark Alliance series.
Webb called it “one of the most bizarre alliances in modern history,” where CIA agents helped the Contra financiers to deliver cut-rate cocaine to crack dealers and used the money that was paid for it to obtain weapons and equipment.
His claims were wildly criticized by the major media, led by the New York Times, the Washington Post, and Los Angeles Times and Webb soon gained such negative reputation that it all led him to lose his job, get divorced, and eventually end up dead with two bullets in his head (which the authorities ruled it a suicide).
However, after more than 18 years since the publication which cost him his life, some of the major figures in the plot have come out to confirm Webb’s claims in a documentary which came out in 2015, quickly after 2014 blockbuster Kill the Messenger received the spotlight in the cinemas.
The documentary Freeway: Crack in the System tells the story of Gary Webb’s discovery and the truth behind the crack epidemic caused by the Government’s will to control other countries’ regimes and ideologies.
The question is, how many other Government-led atrocities have happened since that we don’t know about? Always remain vigilant and never allow to be fooled by loud words. Investigate and think from all perspectives.
The Truth struggles to expose itself, and it cannot remain hidden forever. Our job is not to succumb to the lies.
