In June, 1986, a karate instructor named Jeff Doucet abducted Jody, an 11-year-old boy, and took him to California.
Doucet sexually assaulted Jody before he was rescued. Which is even more horrible, reports showed that Doucet had been molesting and abusing the boy for a whole year prior to the kidnapping.
Of course, every parent would feel devastated to find his child missing and to later discover that such horrible things had happened. Jody’s father, Gary Plauche, decided to even things out and let Doucet skip the trial.
In March, 1984, when Doucet was being taken from the airport by the police to face criminal charges, Gary Plauche took out his gun and killed him. It was all recorded on camera and the video clearly shows Gary shooting Doucet in the right moment.
You can clearly see Gary taking his gun out and shooting Doucet dead. The policemen reacted instantly, although too late to save Doucet.
You can hear them yelling “Gary, why?” repeatedly while making sure the gun is pointed upwards so that it doesn’t fire again.
What Gary Plauche did was something that some people have judged understandable and justified. Others stood against the act, saying that killing the rapist was not the answer.
Gary’s answer as to why he did it was short and simple: “If it had been your child, you would have done the same thing.”
Plauche was taken to court and tried for the homicide, to which he pleaded guilty. His act was deemed as manslaughter due to the affective nature or the case and Plauche received a very light sentence. He received 5 years of probation and no jail time.
This case caused a lot of fuss back then, with people being divided over whether Plauche should have served jail time or not.
What is your opinion? Do you think he did the right thing by taking revenge on the person who harmed his child in such atrocious and perverted way? What would you have done in his place?
