don’t force yourself

Gratitude is the highest and purest form of thought. It’s the root of happiness and joy. It’s the root of your inner peace. It has the power to transform the way you perceive the world around you and the way you treat others and yourself, too.

Even when you’re going through a rough period in your life, there are countless reasons to be grateful.

Life has given you numerous things you should be more aware of and always appreciate. You’re surrounded by people who truly love you and care about you. People who deserve to hear your “thank you.”

And it does not have to be Thanksgiving for you to remind yourself of the things you should be grateful for and express that gratitude. You can and you should practice gratitude every day. Since the benefits of practicing gratitude daily are almost endless.

Here are 5 reasons you should practice the art of gratitude:

1. Showing gratitude to the people you hold dear is the most valuable gift you can give them.

It’s the highest praise. It’s the prettiest compliment. It’s the highest form of love you can show the people who mean to you most.

2. Practicing gratitude makes you aware that you don’t need more than what you already have in life.

You have a roof over your head, an amazing family and friends, and a good, steady job. Well, you don’t need me to remind you that there are many others out there who don’t have some or any of these.

This doesn’t mean that you should not strive for more. It just means that you already have what you need in order to live a happy, meaningful, and satisfying life. You just need to be more aware of it.

3. The more you practice gratitude, the more you attract positive things in life.

The more thankful you are, the more you attract honest, kind-hearted, compassionate, and generous people. The more you fill your life with happiness, joy, and peace. The more you’re willing to accept the challenges life may send your way.

4. Practicing gratitude helps you forgive more easily.

Regardless of how badly someone has hurt you, you learn new things about yourself and the world around you from every person you let into your life.

You learn that holding a grudge against the person who has done you wrong  and carrying bitterness in your heart doesn’t do any good. You learn that forgiving others gives you a sense of peace and fulfillment.

5. Practicing gratitude makes you focus less on material things.

Practicing gratitude keeps you from feeling envy of other people’s happiness and success. It makes you focus more on your own happiness and your own growth. It makes you become more aware of and place more importance on the real values in life. It makes you appreciate more the people who truly love and care about you.
