The solar plexus chakra, also known as Manipura (which in Sanskrit means “City of Jewels”) is the core of our personality, self-identity, ego and willpower. This chakra is known as the power chakra. It is called the solar plexus chakra because it is situated in the solar plexus of our bodies, with its back being on a parallel spot on our spine. It rules our autonomy, personal power and metabolism. It is a center responsible for our self-esteem, mental force and our individuality and independence.
This chakra takes the energy from the food we intake, from the connection with other people and from external stimuli and distributes it throughout the body. It is considered to be the seat of vital energy for our bodies.
Of course this comes with a warning: you need to be careful what you eat, how you connect with people and what you allow to affect your self-esteem and self-identity, as this may have an effect on your whole being.
This means you need to safeguard your ‘city of jewels’, but at the same time show everybody how beautiful it is. It is the place from which you shine out to the world and show your true self, and you should never be ashamed of showing it in its true colors. This chakra plays its part in intuition as well – remember when you get the ‘gut feeling’ when something’s right or not?
Which organs is the solar plexuschakra responsible for?
As we mentioned in Part I, this chakra governs over the digestive system and pancreas. If you have problems with digestion, eating disorders, blood sugar and generally all problems connected to digestion, you might want to check on your solar plexus chakra.

There are two scenarios for an imbalanced solar plexus chakra: it can be underactive or overactive. Both cases are unhealthy, as they bring many negative aspects to one’s being.
Underactive solar plexus chakra:
An underactive solar plexus chakra can cause severe emotional problems that arise from low self-esteem. One may feel mistrust and doubt towards other people and start worrying too much about what others may think about him/her.
This can lead to buried emotions that are starting to pile up in the chakra which will in terms cause stomach pain, digestive problems and poor stool. A person with an underactive solar plexus chakra can experience lack of energy, weak will and poor self-discipline. They have a tendency to be cold and submissive and unwilling to act on their own behalf.
Overactive solar plexus chakra:
People with an overactive solar plexus chakra tend to be egotistical. It is usually ‘their way or no way’. They are very judgmental and critical towards others as they believe that even the best can always be better, for which they strive. How to balance the solar plexus chakra?
If you find yourself in one of the scenarios of an imbalanced solar plexus chakra, you might want to help yourself by trying to balance it. While energy healing (such as Reiki or Crystal Therapy) is a very good step, you will need to work on yourself even afterwards, since your body is your temple and you have to keep it healthy, nourished and clean all the time.
There are several ways of balancing this energetic center. Below you will find some useful ways of balancing it, but be careful as these techniques are only good for an underactive solar plexus chakra! If your chakra is overactive, try balancing the neighboring chakras, and the energy will adjust itself.
Color therapy (or chromo therapy)
Yellow is the color of the solar plexus chakra, which means wearing something yellow will instantly boost the chakra as it vibrates with the same frequency. However, if your solar plexus chakra is overactive, we recommend that you stop wearing yellow for some time. You can also place ayellow poster in your bedroom if your solar plexus chakra is underactive.
Sound therapy (audio therapy)
You can play solfeggio harmonics at 528 Hz on YouTube. You can also chantRAMas a mantra, since its sound frequencies stimulate the solar plexus chakra.
Nutrition for the solar plexus chakra
Yellow foods, such as lemons, bananas and grains such as bread, granola, sunflower seeds or flax seeds. From spices, you can take turmeric, ginger, chamomile, melissa or cumin.
Physical activity
Besides yoga, a long walk in the sun will be extremely beneficial to the solar plexus chakra, as it is powered by the Sun’s energy. Also, making a fire and sitting next to it can boost the chakra.
Meditation
Sitting comfortably while focusing your attention the region just above the navel (at the solar plexus region) and visualizing ayellow sunflower blooming at that spot will stimulate the energy of the solar plexus chakra. You can chant RAM while meditating on the solar plexus chakra.
Meditation in nature is always the best one there is, but if you can’t find the time, just tidy your room and meditate facing a window.
