Health Experts Are Warning People To Stop Eating Tilapia


We are advised that eating seafood is good for our health because it is rich in many vitamins and nutrients. But not all kind of seafood is as healthy as we think it is.

Due to the affordability and accessibility, the fish Tilapia is very popular among the Americans, but according to health experts is the most dangerous kind of fish which people eat.

There are Only Few Nutrients in Tilapia

According to a report released by the researchers from the Wake Forest University School of Medicine, there is far lower amount of omega-3 fatty acids in Tilapia in comparison to any other kind of fish.

 And omega-3 fatty acids are an important part of any fish, since they lower the risk of developing Alzheimer’s. Moreover Tilapia has a lot of omega-6 fatty acids, which can cause a lot of damage to your health.

The amount of omega-6 fatty acids in tilapia is much higher than in a burger or bacon.  

Tilapia Can Lead to Developing Alzheimer’s

Arachidonic acid is the name of one of the omega-6 fatty acids found in tilapia. This compound boosts the inflammatory damage which leads to Alzheimer’s. So we should have in mind that eating fish like halibut, sardines and mackerel would diminish the chances of developing Alzheimer’s whereas eating Tilapia would do the opposite.

Most of the Tilapia is Farmed

The second most often farmed fish in the world is precisely this fish, the Tilapia. The Tilapia is pretty resilient type of fish. It can eat almost anything. And while this fact is beneficial to the farmers it’s very bad for the consumers.

The farmers won’t have to use a lot of budget to supply fish food, like they would if, for example, they were farming salmon. So they would invest a little and earn a lot. Of course that sounds like a good plan for farmers, but not for the consumers.  

So farmers would often feed the fish with pig and chicken poop. The Tilapia is also filled with antibiotics and genetically modified in order to grow faster. Isn’t that gross?  

Tilapia Causes Cancer

The amount of carcinogens in the Tilapia is 10 times higher than in any other kind of fish. No surprise there since as we mentioned earlier the farmers feed the Tilapia with industrial-grade chemicals, pesticides and poop.

A researcher has shown the presence of dioxin in this fish, and dioxin is connected with the development and progress of cancer. And our body would need around 7-11 years in order to flush out the dioxin out of it.

These are enough reasons for me and my family to stop eating Tilapia for good. Spread the word and make sure that your friends and family know the risks of eating this toxic fish.
