Plan together
Something that might sound obvious but can go wrong all too easily – make sure you plan the vacation together! Pick a destination both of you want to visit, plan activities you are both going to enjoy, and ensure the itinerary takes care of both of your needs and desires. This doesn’t mean you shouldn’t try new things, far from it, but just that you need input from both of you in everything you choose. It is worth packing your bags together too. You might want to share a bag so you aren’t overwhelmed with luggage, in which case you’ll want something like a hardcase that can fit everything you need without squabbling over space! But you’ll inevitably want something smaller, just for your own personal items as well.
Set a budget
Money can be awkward to talk about, but it is far better to get it out of the way in the planning stages than to have uncomfortable moments when you are on the road. Set a budget you are both comfortable and stick to it…unless you both decide to splurge spontaneously on something romantic!
Plan time together AND apart
Sure, it’s a couple’s vacation, but you don’t have to spend every minute together! Having some downtime away from each other is just as important as planning amazing romantic moments together.
Take pictures
You will want to remember the good times, so make sure you take loads of photos. It is particularly important to share the load, photography-wise, so your memories of the trip are not all of one person on their own! Of course, if you are bringing expensive photography gear along it is vitally important that you have the right bag, something waterproof and secure to keep it all safe.
