How to Stay Humble

Did you accomplish amazing things in life and acquired some wealth? Don’t let your success get to your head!

Here’s how to stay humble.

Are you more successful than even you ever thought you would be? You might have a great job, a ton of money in the bank, a beautiful house, a fancy car, and everything else you ever wanted out of life.

That’s great! But you know what? That doesn’t mean that you have to rub everyone else’s face in it and act like you’re better than them.

Instead, you should learn how to stay humble. People will think so much more of you in the long run when you work at being humble.

We’re not going to lie to you: Staying humble isn’t always going to be easy. There will be times when you’ll want to scream about your success from the rooftops.

But those are the times when you’ll want to work extra hard at learning how to be humble. Here are some of the top ways to stay humble despite all your success.

Avoid Sharing Good News About Yourself Without Anyone Asking

If you’re a successful person, you probably have a lot of good news to share about yourself at almost all times. As a result of this, you might be tempted to list all your recent successes when something asks you a simple question like, “What’s new?”

Try not to do this if you can avoid it. While it’s OK to share good news if someone asks you a specific question about it, you’re going to come across as bragging about yourself if you share good news without being prompted to do it.

Stick to the Facts When Talking About Your Success

Is there anything more obnoxious than when someone shares how much money they make at work to show how successful they are? Ugh, it’s the worst.

Yet, so many people talk about their success in these terms. They’ll get super specific when discussing things like:

  • Their salary
  • The cost of their house and/or car
  • How much money do they have in their retirement account

This is another thing that you shouldn’t do under any circumstances when working on staying humble.

It’s acceptable to acknowledge that you just got a new job or bought a new house/car. But you don’t have to go in-depth as far as what you’re making now or what something costs you. Just stick to the facts and you’ll be fine.

Give Credit to Other People for Helping You Become a Success

Very few people achieve a high level of success without getting at least a little bit of help along the way. You’ve probably had parents, friends, coworkers, mentors, and others who have assisted you in some way over the years.

You shouldn’t forget them when you finally strike it rich and transform yourself into a successful person. You likely wouldn’t have all the success that you have today if it weren’t for their help.

Give credit where credit is due by throwing their names out into casual conversations that you have with others. It’s how to remain humble even when you’re on top of the world, as it forces you to look back and remember your roots.

Understand That You Still Have Weaknesses Despite All Your Success

It’s safe to say that Steve Jobs was a pretty successful person, right? He might go down as one of the most important American figures of the 21st century.

But believe it or not, even he had lots of weaknesses that he had to overcome throughout his life. He tinkered with his approach to life right up until the very end in an attempt to turn himself into a better—and more successful—person.

Just like Steve Jobs, you have weaknesses. Even if you’re super successful and have everything you want out of life, there are still no doubt ways in which you can improve yourself.

You should sit down one day soon and list all your weaknesses. You might be surprised to see how many of them that you have.

You can then work towards turning many of these weaknesses into strengths. By constantly working to improve yourself, you’ll keep your success in the proper perspective and avoid letting it go to your head.

Realize That Success Is Fleeting and You Might Not Always Be the Success Story You Are Now

Someone like Amazon founder Jeff Bezos isn’t going to blow through his billions all of a sudden and go broke.

But unless you’re a billionaire just like Jeff Bezos, there is always a chance that you might not be as successful as you are now. All it takes is one bad misstep in the business world to erase all the success you’ve amassed.

You should take the time to realize this and let it soak in. If you need any help, there are loads of stories on the internet about people who have raked in fortunes only to lose them later on.

You should read those stories as well as the story about a billionaire who took a rather unique approach to stay humble once you made it big.

Figuring Out How to Stay Humble When You’re Successful Is Important

Keeping your ego in check when you’re rich and successful can be challenging for some people. They get a taste of what it’s like to be a powerful person and forget how to stay humble.

Don’t let yourself fall into this trap if you’re someone who has achieved some success in your life. You’ll leave a much better impression on those around you when you stay humble and avoid changing into a different person.
