5 Tips on How to Stay Healthy When You’re Traveling on a Cruise Ship

SHARE

Getting sick while you’re on a cruise is the worst thing that can happen to you. Here are some tips on how to stay healthy while you’re on a cruise ship.

Are you thinking about going on a cruise in the near future?

Cruises are a great way to see the world and create memories with those you love. However, being on a cruise also means you’re going to be in close proximity to sometimes thousands of other guests.

No matter how diligently the cruise ships are cleaned, germs are aplenty, and your chances of getting sick on a cruise are much more likely than when you’re at home. Not to mention, cruise ship food isn’t always the healthiest, and staying in shape can be tough.

So, how do you stay healthy on a cruise? Check out this guide to discover everything you need to know about how to stay healthy on a cruise.

  1. Wash Your Hands

One of the best ways to save yourself from getting sick on a cruise is to wash your hands.

Because you’re going to be surrounded by so many people, you should wash your hands more than you would in a “normal” life. Besides washing after the bathroom, you should also wash your hands before and after every meal.

It’s also a good idea to give your hands a good wash after participating in any group activities or using any shared equipment.

Remember that you should wash your hands for at least 20 seconds to remove all the germs.

  1. Wear Sunscreen

The last thing you want is for your cruise to be spoiled by a killer sunburn. So, make sure you lather up on the sunscreen.

We suggest using an SPF of at least 30 and making sure you reapply every 2 hours and after you get wet.

  1. Pace Yourself at the Buffet

Multicourse meals can take a toll on your tummy and leave you feeling bloated, sluggish, and nauseous. Therefore, it’s very important to remember to pace yourself at the buffets.

Remember you can always grab another plate and go back for seconds, so don’t give in to the temptation to load on as many items as possible during your first round. If you don’t want to pack on any extra pounds this vacation, try to limit yourself to one plate at each buffet meal, and only put on as much food as you’d eat at home.

  1. Chew on Ginger Candies

If you’re someone who gets seasick, then we suggest stocking up on ginger candies before you board your cruise ship.

This is because ginger contains nutrients that can help beat seasickness. If you don’t like the taste of ginger, you can also take an over-the-counter medication like Dramamine.

  1. Go Easy on the Alcohol

Remember, liquid calories count too, and if you’re ordering sugary drinks like piña coladas and daiquiris, you’re probably consuming way more calories than you think.

Now, this doesn’t mean you can’t have your fun while onboard, just make sure you drink responsibly and if you’re trying to be healthy, opt for less sugary drinks.
