Having Trouble Getting Pregnant? Here Are Some Helpful Options

SHARE

We all want to have children and start a family. Unfortunately, not everyone is blessed with the ability to conceive and carry a child. For some, infertility can be very frustrating and emotionally draining – but it doesn’t have to be! There are many ways that doctors and specialists can help you get pregnant – from fertility drugs to IVF treatments. Here are some helpful options for those who need a little encouragement in their lives.

Use egg donation

One of the options available for those who want to conceive and struggle to do so is egg donation. These eggs come from a female donor who wishes to help others experience the joy of parenthood. A good egg donor will have an excellent health history, their own eggs which are properly functioning, and they should want to help another couple conceive.

There are several steps involved in using egg donation to get pregnant that include meeting with your doctor or fertility specialist, screening for both the male partner’s sperm as well as the egg donor’s eggs, having hormone injections if necessary along with retrieving the eggs through minor surgery, fertilizing them with your male partner’s sperm by inserting them into the uterus of either an IVF carrier (gestational surrogate) or directly into your uterus, and finally having a baby.

It is important to note that you cannot pick your egg donor. Generally, the clinic will provide you with profiles of donors who match your physical characteristics (such as if you’re blonde they’ll likely have more blonde donors) and then allow you to select one at random. Again it is important that potential parents understand that this woman does not know them. their names will be kept confidential which means she won’t find out the outcome of her donation and whether or not the child is born. Also, you should understand egg donation costs before you make this decision as it is very expensive. There are many couples who want a baby and cannot have one of their own, or they can’t carry a baby to term, which makes egg donation absolutely necessary.

Sperm donation

Sperm donation is a common type of fertility treatment that can greatly increase the chances of getting pregnant. Basically, it’s when a woman takes in donated sperm to try and conceive.

Sperm donation is an option that can work well for couples or single women who are having trouble conceiving because of male factor infertility. This is when a problem with the male causes fertility issues in a couple. It might be something like a low sperm count, poor motility, or having too many abnormal sperm.

Increase your level of fertility naturally

There are everyday things you can do to increase your fertility naturally. Changing up your daily routines can help you become pregnant faster, or at least keep it from getting any more difficult to conceive.

Here are some everyday habits that can affect how difficult it is for you to get pregnant- and sometimes even result in infertility:

Stress

Stress can have a very negative effect on the body, and not just in the way you would usually expect. Stress makes it much harder for your body to become pregnant as infertile women may have higher stress levels than fertile women.

Be sure to limit your stress as much as possible by simplifying your life. Take up meditation or another method of stress relief. Get plenty of exercises, but not too much. Avoid big life changes where you do not get enough sleep, be around toxic chemicals (think cleaning products), or overexert yourself physically.

Limit caffeine intake

This is especially important for women trying to conceive. Too much caffeine reduces fertility in infertile women by almost 50%! This is because caffeine increases estrogen levels, and too much estrogen can prevent a woman from conceiving. So what is the recommended amount of caffeine? Two hundred milligrams or less per day for infertile women. If you’re one of those people who can’t start their morning without a cup of coffee, try switching to decaf.

Smoking

Nicotine and other harmful chemicals in cigarettes make it much more difficult for women to conceive. If you are among the many smokers who want to become pregnant, consider quitting – even if you haven’t yet started trying to conceive! While some pregnancy tests are not sensitive enough to pick up nicotine in a smoker’s urine, it is still possible for the fetus to be harmed by secondhand smoke.

Alcohol – The general advice is to limit your alcohol intake if you are trying to conceive. If you have just started trying and have been drinking every day, then cut back immediately! Women who drink too much can also face fertility issues as alcohol too increases estrogen levels and reduces the chances of conceiving.

Fertility drugs

If you are unable to conceive naturally, there are many fertility medicines that can help. There are two kinds of fertility drugs – the ones that prevent the female’s ovaries from releasing eggs and the ones that stimulate the production of progesterone. It is important that you take them under a doctor’s supervision to prevent any side effects.

Fertility drugs can help up to 80% of infertile women become pregnant. If you wish to conceive naturally, however, it is probably best not to take these medications unless your fertility specialist feels they would be beneficial in improving your chances of conception.

Surrogacy

Surrogacy can be an amazing way to create your family. If you see that having a child biologically isn’t the option for you, surrogacy is one that many couples turn to. You may not be able to carry your own baby in your body, but that doesn’t mean that you can’t have a child. There are wonderful surrogates out there who can become pregnant with your baby and carry them to the term for you, allowing you to turn a dream into a reality.

Surrogacy is an expensive process that isn’t for everyone, but it’s always worth researching and thinking about if you’re interested in creating your family through pregnancy. For some couples, this is the only option they have available to them – so finding out more about surrogacy could be the answer you need to grow your family.

You can find a surrogate from a surrogacy agency or from online websites that deal with fertility and surrogacy.

Adopting a child

Another option worth thinking about is adoption. If you and your partner are ready to start a family, but can’t conceive naturally, adoption is one of the most beautiful ways to grow your family. There are many children out there who need parents and homes, and by opening up your home to one of these kids you’ll be giving them an amazing gift that they will cherish for their entire lives.

Adopting a child also doesn’t cost money like some previously mentioned treatments. You need to go through a lot of procedures and meet a lot of requirements, but adoption is a wonderful way to grow your family without investing too much time and money.

So if you’ve been trying and struggling to get pregnant, don’t give up hope. As you saw there are many ways that doctors and specialists can help you conceive. The article we’ve provided should be a helpful resource for those who need a little encouragement in their lives.
