Research Shows That We Are All Born Creative Geniuses But Our Education Dumbs Us Down

There’s no doubt that the most intelligent beings are the most extraordinary creative geniuses. However, in today’s world of constant expectations and socially-acceptable norms imposed by the ruling classes, we often experience obstacles that prevent us from getting in touch with our deepest imagination.

We’re well aware of the fact that we’re systematically dumbed down and our educational system is the first one to blame, but it seems like nobody is doing anything about it.

Well, almost nobody.

One of the people who committed their lives to prove what kind of influence society has on our creative thinking and the main connection between creativity and our established educational program, is Dr. George Land, a famous speaker, consultant, and general systems scientist.

He dedicated his career to studying the enhancement of creative performance as well as the components that determine high creative performance.

According to Dr. Land, the main and essential reason for the loss of our creativity lies in the core of the two primary thinking processes when it comes to creative potential.

The first is known as Divergent thinking that means creating a fresh new idea, an original thought, rather than just observing it. This often happens subconsciously. On the other side is the Convergent thinking that that refers to judging and criticizing an already existing idea which happens in our conscious thought.

And the main problem with our educational programs in Dr. Land’s opinion is that schools try to teach children to use both thinking mechanisms at the same time, which is impossible.

“What we have concluded is that non-creative behavior is learned,” stated Dr. Land.

In 1968, he conducted a longitudinal study that involved 1600 children who were enrolled in a Head Start Program. He gave these children a test that measures a person’s creative brilliance to see how creative they were.

It was exactly the same test that Dr. Land and Bet Jarman created for NASA to measure the creative potential and problem-solving capacity of their future rocket scientists.

Dr. Land re-tested the same children at the age of 10 and again at the age of 15. The task was to look at a specific problem and come up with fresh, innovative ideas. He later gave the same test to 280.000 adults at the average age of 31. The results were shocking.

The highest percentage of people who scored at “Genius Level“ were actually 5-year-olds with 98% of creative brilliance, 10-year-olds scored with 30%, 15-year-olds with 12%,  whereas the adults scored with only 2%.

In other words, they discovered that the longer an individual is subjected to the educational system, the lower their creative potential became.

So, how can we work past the BARRIER and get back in touch with our CREATIVE SELF?

Creativity is in the mind, at the very core of our imagination. So, despite our society’s best efforts to train our minds into narrow reasoning and prevent us from ‘thinking out of the box,’ our imagination can’t be killed. It is a special something that lies in every one of us and is just waiting for a nudge to be reawakened and restored.

Based on all of the studies he conducted, and all the brain scans he looked at, Dr. George Land advises us that all is not lost. He suggests that we can rehabilitate our creativity by simply judging less and increase our empathetic side to try and understand more. He adds that fear and anxiety can also be extremely non-productive.

As a teacher, I’ve had the pleasure to work with children for some time. From that experience, I did manage to learn so many things about them (if you let them, they can teach you incredible things). The truth is, children do things differently – they see the world differently.

And this different way of seeing the world makes them act accordingly (and thus naturally). I came across an article in Psychology Today that speaks about some of their habits and I couldn’t help but notice how spot on these behaviors are among them.

I am talking about the things they do that we like to perceive as ‘naughty’ and ill-mannered. The truth is, most of us adults like to cure the children of a ‘disease’ called childhood, and this backfires badly.

We may have learned that we should not treat children like they are mentally incapable of understanding common sense, but we never managed to learn how to understand the world we have grown out of.

Here are 8 very natural things that children do that we like to perceive as naughty.

1. Uncontrollable impulses

Oftentimes parents expect that their children act like grownups before they have the chance to grow up. Many parents think that children are born with a fully functional self-control unit and that they should start using it as soon as possible.

However, you should be aware that children’s brains aren’t fully developed, especially when it comes to the regions involved in self-control, which become fully mature by the end of adolescence.

2. A lot of movement

This need to move around and run has little to do with being ‘naughty.’ It is a developmental need that needs to be paid special attention to. Instead of telling your kid off for running around the house or jumping on the bed, organize some physically engaging activities that involve the playground, cycling, or anything you know your child will love.

3. Playtime all the time

Children have a fierce need for play. Don’t be surprised if they like to make a silly game out of everything – especially when you are in a hurry. In fact, most of the ‘bad’ behaviors we see in the children are, as John Gottman explains, ‘bids’ for you to engage in playing with them.

If you know how it feels when you’re angry because of hunger, or tense because you need sleep, then imagine the tenfold effect children experience from these “core conditions” of being thirsty, hungry, tired, over-sugared, or ill.

When these conditions kick in, children find it very difficult to control their behavior and emotions, and they start acting differently (but accordingly). In the presence of such strong needs, it’s natural that they won’t always manage to communicate the message loudly and clearly the way you want to hear it.

7. Reaction to inconsistent limits

If you asked your child what they wanted for dinner but the next dinner you informed them of what they were going to eat without giving them choice, don’t be surprised to see them react. Here the list can go on, and the main issue is the inconsistency in the rules you’re applying to them.

Kids know how to accept rules easily, but the main problem becomes evident when these rules magically change for no particular reason. Being incongruent or setting double standards will make your child show protest and dissatisfaction because they want to know what to expect (and they really need to).

In the end, it’s not always that children can have a say in the way they’ll feel and act – mainly because of emotional contagion. PayPal’s Founder Decides To Build World’s First Floating Nation To Save The Humanity From Politicians

The founder of PayPal, Peter Theil, leads a project to build the world’s first floating nation in the Pacific Ocean off the island of Tahiti in 2020. 

Would you want to live in an independent country which floats on international waters? If you do, you could have a real possibility in 2020!

Peter Theil, the founder of PayPal, conducts a project to construct a floating nation that can function within its own laws. This would be the first floating nation in the world, and it will be placed in the Pacific Ocean off the island of Tahiti.

The project is being carried out by the Seasteading Institute, which is a nonprofit institute with a various team of aquaculture farmers, global marine biologists, investors, nautical engineers, and so on.

This island is being financed by a coin offering. These coin offerings are a relatively new way of crowdfunding because, with them, online projects and startups can raise money without having to sell stock or something else of the sort.

This organization plans on raising about $60 million by 2020 to build a dozen buildings. There will be 11 five-sided rectangular platforms which can hopefully support 3 stories buildings for up to 100 years. The first city is expected to be built on these platforms which can be further rearranged to meet its inhabitants’ needs.

The president of the Seasteading Institute, Joe Quirk, wrote this vision of his in a book called “Seasteading: How Floating Nations Will Restore The Environment, Enrich The Poor, Cure The Sick and Liberate Humanity From Politicians.”

He says that he hopes there will be thousands of ‘floating nations’ by 2050. These nations would be inhabited by people who want to live independently, following their own rules without politicians or bosses meddling in their lives.

Isn’t this marvelous?

The project is focused on creating a location where people can try out a different societal approach, one that has never been tried before.

I don’t think it will be that dramatically radical in the first renditions. We were looking for sheltered waters, we don’t want to be out in the open ocean – it’s technologically possible but economically outrageous to afford,” said Randolph Hencken, the executive director of the Institute.

Moreover, he added that if they can be behind a reef break, they could design floating platforms which would be sufficient for those waters and at an affordable price. So, they wouldn’t have to start from zero because they already have their pilot project.

Finally, he said that they also have stable institutions, so they are able to work with a government that respects them and that they have respect for.

This Goes To My ‘Best Friend’ Who Decided To Cut Me Out Like I Never Existed

This goes out to the “best friend” who left selfishly without giving me the chance to say goodbye. Growing apart from people that were once close to me and experiencing that gut-wrenching feeling of loneliness and raw vacancy is one of the most painful and hardest things I’ve ever lived to experience.

I still can’t get over what happened. It’s almost a year now, but time can’t seem to heal my pain. I stay awake at night and think about all the logical reasons why someone would do that and what kind of a person would dare to do something so inexplicable to someone they loved so fondly.

You left me with so many unanswered questions. Was it my fault? Was it something else? Did it hurt you to cut me out of your life? Do you miss me? The thing that hurts me the most is that I might never get the chance to find the answers to my questions.

I can blame myself. I can get angry at you and never want to forgive you. I may never know the truth. And I may never get the closure I need.  But I sure miss you a lot.  Even though sometimes I hate myself for doing that. I just can’t help it.

But I know that no matter what I do, I can’t diminish our relationship. I cannot deny the bond we shared. Those were and will forever stay our fond memories. No matter what happened in our lives, I can’t devalue what we had. And what we had was special.

As much as I am angry with you for the way you left, I can’t deny that you were this big part of my life. And with that part gone, I felt like I was going to shatter into tiny little glass pieces and never be able to get back to where I was.

But I guess life is not just about beauty. These things make up for that balance. Life is colorful and dramatic – an amazing chain of events: some of them yellow, some of them grey, but some of them black. And they say everything happens for a reason. I truly hope I’ll find it soon enough.

Most importantly, I realized that I can’t stay mad at you. It’s hurting me. After all, it was your decision. No matter how hard it was for me to comprehend the cold-hearted truth, I learned the hard way that I need to let go.

Now I’m wiser. I came to terms with myself and made a decision that I will let you go. And I won’t be angry about everything you did. I must do this for myself and for all the good things we shared. 

I don’t know if you’ll ever get to read this, or if you’ll ever see me again, but I hope you are doing well. I hope you live a life you’re proud of. And I hope you find people that startle you and cherish you the way I did.

 

Thank you for being there for me and thank you for our memories.

I hope our paths cross again someday. If not, I hope to see you in a different life.

It’s safe to say that this way you can definitely avoid those 3 am blacked-out visits to McDonald’s or the local town bakery, which by the way happens to make the best chocolate croissants.
