How Being An Empath Can Lead To Adrenal Fatigue, Insomnia & Exhaustion

Although we all have a natural capacity for empathy, which is the ability to understand, feel, and take on other people’s emotions, only 1 to 2 percent of the population experience high empathy. The people who can experience this kind of sensitivity are known as empaths.

Empaths can sense and absorb the emotions and energies of others and feel them as if they were their own. For example, if an empath is around someone who is joyful, they can get caught up in their joy and happiness. Or if they’re around someone who is sad or angry, they can find themselves feeling the same way in no time.

Feeling and absorbing other people’s energies and emotions and carrying others’ emotional burthen on their own shoulders can often cause empaths to feel anxiety.

Do Empaths Suffer From Anxiety?

It’s no wonder being an empath can cause anxiety considering the fact that these individuals feel and take on the energies and emotions of those around them besides feeling the emotions from within themselves.

That there’s a connection between empathy and anxiety has even been proved by science. Namely, one 2018 study which examined the connection between affective and cognitive empathy and different anxiety dimensions included 403 adolescents aged 12-17 who were admitted to a private psychiatric hospital for 6 years.

Participants were asked to complete three self-report questionnaires that assessed empathy, anxiety, and depression. The results of the assessments showed that affective empathy was positively associated with all the dimensions of anxiety. Researchers also suggested that anxious feelings and empathic arousals participants sense in other people may intensify anxiety symptoms already present in them. Researchers found the strongest relation between separation/panic and rejection/humiliation anxiety, and affective empathy (1).

One possible explanation for these results may be that feeling, and absorbing other people’s emotions often cause distress. For example, if an empath is unable to help a loved one who is under stress or feeling sad or anxious, they might feel guilty when they share their emotional pain or think about their struggles. Moreover, their guilt can cause them to worry that their loved one may be disappointed in them or even reject them. There’s a high chance that this perception can cause the empath to distance themselves from the loved one struggling with emotional pain or harm their relationship somehow.

In addition, the same study found that low cognitive empathy was associated with a higher risk of social anxiety. Namely, participants who had this type of empathy and high affective empathy were more likely to experience more severe social anxiety.

The explanation for this is that when you have high affective empathy and low cognitive empathy, you share emotions with others, but it’s difficult for you to understand what those emotions mean. As a result of this, you may have a hard time getting along with your peers and handling different social situations. It might appear easier to you to hang out with a small number of people you understand, whereas the idea of talking or hanging out with others might intensify your anxiety symptoms.

Another 2011 study also found that individuals that have high social anxiety can demonstrate increased empathic abilities (2).

Do Empaths Suffer From Depression?

Unfortunately, not all empaths know how to protect themselves from the stress and negative energy that exist around them. If an empath is under a lot of stress if they’re continually absorbing other people’s negative emotions and energies, and if they’re too exposed to others’ stress, they can begin feeling sad or even depressed.

Moreover, that there’s a connection between empathy and depression has been even backed by science.

One 2017 study has found that depressed individuals react more strongly to the distress and pain other people experience. The study investigated how low mood affected people’s perception of other people’s distress. For that purpose, participants were asked to listen to either sad or neutral music and then watch videos portraying people receiving non-painful or painful touch (with a needle) to the cheek. The results of the study showed that those participants who listened to sad music, i.e., were in a sad mood, considered the videos more distressing than those participants who were in a neutral mood (3).

The fact that the empathetic distress increased in participants who were in a sad mood can help us understand why depressed people withdraw when seeing others in pain, as this can make them feel even worse.

It’s also worth mentioning that low levels of empathy can also cause a person to feel depressed. For instance, if you have difficulty empathizing with other people and feel like you’re not adept at handling social interactions at all, this may cause you to avoid people often, which, in turn, can make you feel frustrated and alone. These feelings of loneliness can contribute to depression.

What Are Triggers For Empaths?

When an empath experiences an extremely sensitive or traumatic event, their mind can easily develop specific triggers that can cause them to become emotionally exhausted, anxious, or depressed and even develop symptoms of post-traumatic stress disorder.

Some of the most common triggers that can cause empaths to experience emotional distress are the following:

  • Other people’s suffering and pain
  • Feeling extremely sensitive to noisy environments and other people
  • Feeling like someone that disappoints others when they can’t help them solve their problems
  • Being easily affected by negative experiences and emotions, such as anger, anxiety, and depression
  • Other people’s expectations and demands
  • Dealing with narcissists
  • Establishing boundaries or saying “no” to others
  • Feelings of worthlessness
  • Too much intimacy. Empaths can have trouble establishing close physical contact with others, which can make it more difficult for them to be in romantic relationships
  • Speaking up and resolving conflict
  • Being told to “get over their sensitivity,” can cause them to doubt themselves and feel that their emotions and reactions are too much

How Being An Empath Can Lead To Adrenal Fatigue, Insomnia, And Exhaustion

One of the characteristics of being an empath is that they feel emotions more deeply than most people do, no matter how sensitive and emotional we think we are. Often, being alone is more relaxing than being with someone for an empath.

The reason for that lies in the energy people transfer to empaths. All the negative emotions and thoughts transferred to an empath can drain their energy and be exhausting for them.

Not many people are aware that they’re transferring their negative and positive vibes to others. In the case of an empath, they receive every feeling and thought, bad or good.

Imagine an empath standing in a room full of people. The chances that someone is feeling down around them are high. The chances that the empath will feel the same feelings afterward are just as high.

Everyone has negative thoughts and emotions sometimes. Usually, we process those emotions and let go of them during the day. But, if we don’t do that, we experience mind hyperactivity during the night. You know those nights when you just can’t fall asleep no matter how tired you feel?

This feeling can be dreadful and tiring, and to get rid of it, we need to spend some time alone to recharge our batteries.

When our body is under stress, the adrenal glands release hormones to save us from the danger the brain thinks we are in. These hormones help us deal with the challenges we are facing.

Emotions and thoughts caused by past experiences can cause feelings of anxiety, uneasiness, fear, and even panic. These feelings make our brain think that we are under threat, so the brain activates in order to help us by sending signals for hormone production. This results in an increase in our energy levels.

If we have other sources of stress and anxiety at the moment, it only increases the hormone release and makes everything worse.

When these adrenal glands are stimulated extensively, our energy levels increase, and we feel hyperactive, which causes us to have difficulty falling asleep at night. This can be harmful to the glands and cause them to burn out.

When the adrenal glands don’t function properly, this decreases our energy levels, and in an attempt to increase them, we consume food that contains high levels of refined sugar and salt. However, although these types of food give us energy instantly, they don’t work long-term. And then, we crave more food, and we end up feeling hungry and having low energy levels.

But why do we crave junk food when our energy levels are low? It turns out our body knows that we need sugar or salt. The problem is the type of sugar and salt we take.

But why do we crave junk food when our energy levels are low? It turns out our body knows that we need sugar or salt. The problem is the type of sugar and salt we take.

The refined sugar and salt that can be found in processed foods do not provide us with sufficient energy. Instead, natural sources of sugar and salt give us a lot of energy and replenish our adrenal glands.

Besides refined sugars and salts, coffee seems to be our savior when we want to stop feeling exhausted. The problem with coffee is that it can just worsen the situation by irritating our adrenal glands. This results in energy imbalance throughout the day. Instead of feeling energized, we end up feeling extra exhausted and not ready to face stressful situations because of the malfunction of our adrenal glands.

All of these problems can be solved with a positive attitude, an active lifestyle, and healthy food choices. Sleep is an important factor here because when we sleep, the production of hormones by our adrenal glands increases.

That’s why we feel refreshed and replenished in the morning. On the other hand, when our adrenal glands are exhausted, especially during stressful periods, one can wake up in the middle of the night or have difficulties falling asleep.

Fully repairing the adrenal glands can take some time. However, bear in mind that you can notice some changes immediately. Very soon, you will start to feel more energized and more positive. Your sleep will improve, and you will get more things done during the day as a result. Experts recommend having a nutritional diet and eating organic food.

Practicing meditation can help improve the function of our adrenal glands since it helps us stay calm and relaxed. Other activities that can have the same effect on our adrenal glands are spending time with our loved ones and doing enjoyable things, such as watching a favorite movie or riding a bicycle in nature. When we are happy, our body is also happy, and everything in it is balanced, including the adrenal glands.

However, one has to be careful about overdoing things, even when it comes to exercising and dieting. Overdoing it can cause stress, which can have a negative effect in the end.

Do Empaths Need More Sleep?

Since empaths can get easily overwhelmed and drained physically, emotionally, and mentally, which is why they often suffer from insomnia, they need more sleep than other people. Having healthy sleep habits, such as keeping a consistent sleep schedule, can help restore their minds and bodies and make them feel more energized and relaxed when they wake up in the morning.

Sleeping for 8 or more hours a night can help reduce empaths’ sense of being overstimulated by everyday situations. To fall and stay asleep more easily, empaths are recommended to meditate for 5-10 minutes or listen to nature sounds or white noise before going to bed.

How Do Empaths Stay Calm?

Due to the fact that besides feeling the emotions within themselves, empaths feel and take on the energies and emotions of others, often to an extreme, they can often become overwhelmed and feel physically, emotionally, and mentally exhausted.

The best way empaths can protect themselves from sensory overload and exhaustion is to spot the first signs when they begin taking on negative emotions or stress from other people. The more empaths can decrease sensory stimulation and focus on themselves, the more protected they’ll be. So, if you’re an empath, here are 8 ways you can calm yourself when experiencing distress.

1. Distance Yourself From What’s Disturbing You

The minute you begin feeling uncomfortable around a person, distance yourself from them. If you can’t do this, you can imagine putting up a shield of pink light that surrounds your body and protects you from anything stressful, negative, or toxic.

Similarly, if you start feeling uncomfortable or stressed out at the movies or in a restaurant, club, or doctor’s office, make sure you change seats. Don’t hesitate to say “no” to negative energy. Removing yourself from an overwhelming social situation is not disrespectful. Instead, it’s an act of self-care.

2. Ask Yourself, “Is The Emotion I’m Feeling Now Mine Or Someone Else’s?

One telltale sign that you’re feeling and taking on someone else’s energies or emotions is to identify if your mood suddenly begins to change or you begin experiencing some physical symptoms around that person. For instance, if you didn’t feel sad, angry, exhausted, or anxious before, most likely, he/she is the one that’s causing you discomfort.

If you try distancing yourself from that person and the discomfort subsides, this is a sure sign it’s not yours. However, bear in mind that sometimes the emotion may be yours and someone else’s. It’s easy to absorb the emotional pain of others that you haven’t managed to overcome in yourself.

3. Set Firm Boundaries

Just because you’re an empath and care about others, it doesn’t mean you need to let yourself experience distress or emotional pain whenever you’re around someone who is sad, angry, or anxious. To protect your physical and mental health, you need to set firm boundaries. For instance, if someone is draining or negative, limit the amount of time you spend with them or distance yourself from them altogether.

Learn to say “no” more often. Declining invitations when you don’t feel like going anywhere or hanging out with others is okay. Learn to tell people things like, “I’m sorry, I can’t come now, I need to meditate and calm down,” “I can’t stand talking with negative people,” or “I can’t tolerate conflict.” Establishing firm boundaries that you’ll make sure no one pass will protect you from other people’s negativity and toxicity.

4. Reduce Physical Contact

Energy can be transferred through touch and the eyes. So, the moment you begin feeling stressed out, uncomfortable, or exhausted around someone, limit eye and/or physical contact. Avoid hugging or shaking hands with that person.

However, bear in mind that although hugging a close friend or family member when you’re under stress or feeling sad can benefit you, if you can notice that you’re absorbing their emotions or stress, make the hug short.

5. Breathe Slowly And Deeply

As soon as you notice you begin absorbing another person’s negative emotions or energy, focus on your breath. Start breathing slowly and deeply to remove the negative energy from your body.

While breathing deeply, you can also repeat the mantra, “Return to sender,” three times. Your breath will help transport the negative energy back to its sender.

6. Spend Time In Nature

Going for a walk in the nearest park, cycling, or lying in a meadow while listening to the birds singing and feeling how the gentle breeze caresses your skin can feel sublime. Spending time in nature will heal your body and help you remove any unwanted energy you might have absorbed.

7. Spend Less Time On Social Media

While it can be fun to check your news feed on your Facebook or Instagram profile and check how many likes the photo you’ve recently posted has gathered, know that being exposed to all kinds of information on social media can drain your energy, make you feel overwhelmed, and interfere with your ability to fall asleep.

So, instead of letting your energy gets drained in the virtual world, practice meditation, exercise, spend more time in nature or participate in activities that don’t involve using social media.

8. Last But Not Least, Spend Some Time Alone

If you’ve absorbed someone’s negative emotions or energy, take some alone time to focus on yourself. Remove any distractions. Turn off the TV and your phone. Breathe slowly and deeply and focus on feeling only your energy. In this way, you’ll reconnect with yourself and your power.

Loners Are The Most Loyal And Intellectual People You Will Ever Meet. Here’s Why…

While most people are hectically trying to fit in a crowd of interests, attitudes, and styles, there are those people who choose to stay out. They don’t suffer from the fear of missing out, and would rather miss out on many things they find quite trivial.

Being lonely has nothing to do with being a loner. In fact, these are two completely different things. A person feeling lonely is not a loner, but quite the opposite. Loners choose to be alone in most cases.

If you have a loner as a friend, you should indeed feel privileged. It’s not that these people think of themselves too highly – on the contrary, they are quite down to earth and realistic about themselves.

This very fact is what makes them think twice before choosing those around them. They are great analyzers and they find themselves in deep and healthy thought in the solitude they prefer.

Loners don’t prefer shallow topics and gossip, and that’s why they prefer to avoid the majority of people who are obsessed over trivialities.

This deeply intellectual approach toward life helps them understand people around them better and understand the way they function.

There are two kinds of loners – the extroverted and the introverted loners. These two types are different in the way they behave and the company they choose, but in the end, it falls down to the same preference about people.

The extroverted loners can easily communicate with anyone they choose to communicate with. They have no trouble in establishing a healthy and rich communication with people and they don’t feel uncomfortable in a crowd.

However, these people choose to be loners because they don’t want to hang out with anyone. They would rather spend their lives alone, than be around fake people and shallow minds. They are easy to talk to, but will keep their safe distance with a dose of a healthy reserve.

If you manage to get close to an extroverted loner, you have definitely passed a lot of tests you are not aware of. And once you reach the inner territory of this loner’s heart, you will have them as friends for life.

The introverted loners are a different story. They are easily overwhelmed by large groups of people and crowded places, and they would rather be somewhere quiet and relaxing. Their main idea of spending quality time includes a small number of people they feel comfortable with.

You won’t see these people at concerts, or parties. They like spending time in secluded places and prefer hanging out with people who are not too intense or arrogant. Having this kind of loner as a friend means that they feel comfortable and free in your presence.

They like people who they can relate to, intellectually and emotionally.

Both types of loners appreciate intellect and genuine emotion. They will not easily make great friends with many, but those who have these people for friends are privileged to have loyal and trustworthy friends, who are ready to put their complete trust into the relationship.

However, fail them and you may lose them for life. It’s best to be sincere and completely honest with them, even when you have done something wrong. Failing a loner means being insincere and arrogant.

Are you a loner? Do you know a loner?

4 Best Sleeping Positions You Can Have for a Healthy Life

One of the core reasons that help the human body to survive is the ability to sleep! A good night’s sleep can make or break your days, and no one needs more proof for this statement. It’s also known that there are a lot of factors that determine the quality, duration and intensity of regular sleep. However, probably the most important thing in the list would be the sleeping position you follow. I mean, have you ever tried to sleep in a position that’s not comfortable for you? Well, you know what we are talking about.

Basically, the sleeping position makes all the difference when it comes to having a healthy life. In this article, we’ll be talking about the four best sleeping positions you can have for a healthy life. Depending on your physical condition and a few health issues you may have, you can pick one of these sleeping positions. Shall we jump in?

#1 Sleeping on Your Back

Sleeping on your back is one of the most popular sleeping positions there is. It’s so common you’d think it’s not good. However, as research as proven, sleeping on your back has numerous benefits, including but not limited to the protection of your spine and getting rid of knee pain. One of the coolest things about this sleep position is that there is no unusual pressure on any part of the body, especially the joints. This way, you can also retain the maximum amount of comfort. When you think about it, sleeping on your back translates to your body being free to the maximum extent. The problem with sleeping on your back is that it does not help sleep apnea. If that is the case, you can try one of the following positions.

#2 Fetal Position

Fetal sleeping position is perhaps the most complex one from the list. Several research attempts have noted the positive impacts of the position, especially in relation with back pain. This is also recommended to those who are pregnant, since sleeping in this position can lower your back pain. So, if you have been trying out other sleeping position and did not have much luck, fetal position can help you. One of the things you should keep in mind is the mattress you are using. While there are mattresses for various sleeping positions in the market, not everything would be suitable for fetal position. Therefore, you have to ensure maximum comfort when you are lying down at the end of a busy day.

#3 Sleeping on Your Side

If there is a ranking system for sleeping position, this would take the sweet spot. There is a wide variety of advantages to sleeping on your side and it starts with reduced snoring. As we move further, the position is able to help you improve metabolism, digestion and overall health. If you are someone who suffers from heartburn when you wake up, trying out this position would definitely help you. This one is not perfect either — you can actually get issues like back pain if you’re not careful. The best method is to choose a comfortable mattress, toppers and pillows. See few mattress toppers for side sleepers suggested by Insidebedroom.com. Also make sure that you are placing pillows in the best position as to ensure a smooth flow of blood.

#4 Lying on Your Stomach

There is a reason why lying on your stomach is given the fourth position in the list. If you are suffering from sleep apnea, this could be the best sleeping position ever. You will have a better chance at reducing snoring as well. However, there are potential issues as well, especially if you don’t have the right bedding at your disposal. If that’s the case, you may end up having neck pain and back pain. That having said, you can avoid the downsides of lying on your stomach by choosing one of the comfortable mattresses and placing enough pillows where you need them. At the end of the day, it’s about whether your body is comfortable as you fall asleep.

The Bottom Line

We hope you have a clearer idea about sleeping positions after reading so far. As you have seen, each of the positions have their advantages and disadvantages. Also, the final results depend a lot upon the mattresses and other bedding material that you are using. So, ensure that you are comfortable in the space you sleep before you make a shift to one of the other sleeping positions.

How To Ease Your Period

Periods are something most women have to deal with from the age of puberty until they have gone through menopause. For many women, the arrival of a period barely rates a mention. But for some, periods are painful, inconvenient, and expensive. In this guide, we’re going to look at the things you can do to make your period a bit easier each month.

Reduce Discomfort

Menstrual cramps are deeply unpleasant, but there are lots of ways to ease the pain.

  • Wrap a hot water bottle in a towel and hold it snugly against your belly. The heat should help to soothe the pain.
  • Have a hot bath and add some drops of lavender oil. This is nice and relaxing and again, the heat will ease your discomfort.
  • Try massaging your belly in gentle circles. Many women find this helps when they suffer from cramps.
  • Exercise is also helpful, even though you might not feel like doing anything. In fact, if you combine exercise with a dose of sunshine, you get a two-for-the-price-of-one benefit, as Vitamin D is known to relieve painful period cramps.
  • Go to bed early when your period is at its worst. Sleep is the cure for most things, including period pain.
  • Drink a cup of chamomile tea.

Don’t forget to look closely at your diet too. Are you drinking enough fluids? Try to avoid eating too much fat and sugar. Foods with anti-inflammatory properties are helpful, such as bell peppers, cherries, and tomatoes. Cinnamon, ginger, and fennel are all proven cures for period pain.

Minimize the Inconvenience

There’s no getting away from the fact that periods are rather inconvenient. Unless your menstrual flow is very light, chances are you have to think carefully about what you wear. You’ll probably need to avoid wearing light-colored pants and skirts, pack a change of underwear, and keep a decent supply of menstrual products.

When you’re at home each day, it’s not so bad. You can jump in the shower if you leak everywhere and you can hide from the world if your hormones are making you feel homicidal. But if you have a high-pressure job or you need to be outdoors all day, periods can be difficult to deal with.

A big part of the problem is having to change tampons and sanitary pads at regular intervals. There’s nothing worse than sitting in a meeting and experiencing a sudden gush of blood – and then spending the next hour wondering if you have leaked everywhere.

The solution to this problem is to start wearing period-proof underwear or switch to a menstrual cup. Both products are reusable and much kinder to the environment.

Period Underwear

Period underwear is highly absorbent, leak and odor proof. Period panties look just like regular underwear and are available in a range of styles, from sexy boy shorts to conservative high-waisted underwear. Pick the style that suits and you’re good to go. Period underwear is ideal for women who want to go about their daily lives without worrying about leaks. You can wear period panties as a standalone garment or while using a regular tampon and there’s no chance of embarrassing accidents.

Menstrual Cups

Menstrual cups are worn internally like a tampon, for up to 12 hours at a time. This means you can wear a menstrual cup all day long and as long as it’s inserted correctly, it won’t leak. Menstrual cups are ideal for active women who love to exercise – you can empty your cup whenever it’s convenient, rinse in clean water, and put it back in place.

Whether you opt for a menstrual cup or decide to wear period panties., instead of worrying about leaks and regular visits to the ladies, you can relax.

Save Money

The cost of menstrual products is another reason why periods are painful. Tampons and sanitary pads aren’t too expensive, but when you factor in the expense of replacing ruined underwear, it all adds up. By switching to reusable menstrual products, you can save a ton of money in the long-term. And since you’re helping to save the environment too, you can sleep a little easier at night. This article from EBY may be helpful for you too.

Don’t let periods mess up your life every month. You really don’t need to dread Aunt Flow’s arrival if you follow the tips above!

Ancient Egyptian Beauty Secrets

What springs to mind when you think of ancient Egypt? Pyramids, pharaohs, the Sphinx, and King Tutankhamen’s tomb? How about beauty secrets? The world-renowned seductress, Cleopatra, apparently had more than great people skills going for her when enticing both Julius Caesar and Marc Antony. The ancient Egyptians were an agrarian culture, but they learned to make health and beauty products both from the farming culture around them and from the land of Egypt itself.

Goat’s Milk

Goats were utilized in multiple ways in Egyptian society. Not only was their milk, cheese, and meat part of every Egyptian’s diet, but their skins made effective water containers and floating devices. Goat fat is referred to as tallow. Tallow can be used for cooking, as a lubricant, as a biofuel, and in skin care products. Soaps made from animal fats were often used by the ancient Egyptians. Because of the essential fatty acids in goat’s milk, soaps made from goat milk do not strip the skin of its natural moisture barrier. When you rinse the soap off of your face, dirt may be rinsed away, but the moisture in your skin remains intact. Legend has it that Cleopatra used milk and honey masks and also bathed in milk to keep her skin smooth and supple.

Goat milk also contains alpha-hydroxy acids (AHAs). AHAs have a mildly exfoliating effect. Due to this exfoliating quality, goat milk soap benefits include producing smoother, fresh-looking skin and they are often used to address skin conditions like acne, age spots, scarring, and hyperpigmentation.

Castor Oil

Castor oil, a translucent liquid with a slightly yellow tint, comes from seeds of the ricinus communis plant, which is native to tropical areas of Africa and Asia. As a source of ricinoleic acid, castor oil has antimicrobial and anti-inflammatory properties which can be helpful in reducing acne. Ricinoleic acid can inhibit growth of acne-causing bacteria. Castor oil is also rich in other fatty acids, which smooth and soften the skin. Fatty acids also promote the growth of healthy skin tissue, making it helpful in restoring uneven skin tones.

Castor oil is also thought to support hair growth and follicle health. Though there are no studies proving that castor oil directly causes hair growth, the possibility exists. Because hair growth is triggered by prostaglandin and ricinoleic acid in castor oil has been shown to stimulate prostaglandin, there is a possibility that castor oil has this benefit. Ancient Egyptians sported a variety of hair styles and it’s clear that hair was a prioritized aspect of their personal appearance. They likely used castor oil for their hair due to its moisturizing properties, even when preparing bodies for burial.

Henna

Henna is a powder derived from the leaves of the henna plant. The earliest use of this plant dates back to the Pharaohs of Egypt. There is a hieroglyph, pouquer, which is believed to depict the henna plant.  The term “henna” comes from the Arabic “al khanna.” It is the Persian name for the flowering shrub Lawsonia Inermis, found in hot climates like Egypt, India, and Africa.

Henna leaves are dried and crushed into a bright green powder, then made into a paste using oils and tea. This paste is then applied to the hair or skin, staining just the top layer. Henna in its natural state will dye the skin an orange to brown color. When applied to hair, the color deposit varies depending on the hair’s natural shade; lighter hair shades will be a shade of orange. Because henna has no peroxide and cannot lighten hair, dark hair will simply have a reddish or orange luster as a result of henna. Natural henna when applied and stained properly cannot be scrubbed away or bleached off.

Egyptians used henna as a form of nail polish and as a hair and body dye. Cleopatra is said to have used henna to decorate her body and beautify her hair. Use of henna strengthens hair and adds shine to it. It also acts as a natural remedy for hair loss, dryness, and dandruff.

Kohl

No article on Egyptian beauty could be considered complete without mention of the famous Egyptian cat-eye look immortalized by Cleopatra. Kohl The word “kohl” comes from the Arabic word kahala, which means “to stain.” Ancient Egyptian women were even buried with kohl, a seeming essential for the afterlife.

Kohl is derived from galena, a blue-grey natural mineral form of lead sulfide. Although the FDA has banned all cosmetic products made with lead, including kohl, studies suggest that the daily wearing of kohl made Egyptian eyes resistant to bacterial infections due to the spontaneous response of immune cells. Scientists analyzed samples found in Egyptian tombs and recreated ancient recipes to test the effects of these lead compounds on skin cells. These did not cause lead poisoning, but instead triggered an overproduction of nitrogen monoxide (NOo), which stimulated nonspecific immunological defenses. Whatever the medicinal benefits, the look of the kohl application in ancient Egypt was elaborate, elongating the eye to create that almond or cat-eye shape that is famous even today, thousands of years later.

Can you remember it longer? – The Music Effects On Memory

Music is a massive part of most people’s lives. Have you ever heard a song about a specific memory from your past? Some people believe music is not only there for entertainment, but that it can also affect your memory. There has been some research done on the effects of music, and here are the results.

The findings of the researchers are as follows. It has been proven that music can aid people with damaged memory remember specific events from their past. This is most helpful while treating people who have Alzheimer’s disease or dementia. Music is a useful asset when it comes to memory loss therapy.

But not only people that suffer from diseases associated with memory can benefit from listening to melodies. Playing a musical instrument can improve your memory during the process. Scientists have already known for ages that playing an instrument has a positive effect on the emotional and cognitive development of people.

However, these days neuropsychologists can prove that playing a musical instrument not only improves the area of the brain with memories related to music, but it has a positive effect on memory, in general. Another scientific fact is that people who have a genetic predisposition for hearing issues in the future could slow down the progress of these health issues by taking up a musical instrument. There is a reason why it is very common for parents to encourage their children to learn how to play a musical instrument, after all.

Music can also affect the quality of your studying sessions. When you think about music and studying, it’s not just the musical training that can help you improve your studying in a faster and more efficient way. Students who are preparing for an exam can benefit from listening to music. Scientists believe that classical music enhances the quality and speed of studying, especially when you are doing math homework. This is why musicians tend to do better in math than students without any connection to the world of classical music.

You can be sure that music does affect your memory and take advantage of it. Look for headphone reviews and make sure you get the right quality of sound for your brain to use the effect created by melody.

Music doesn’t only affect your ability to remember; it affects many parts of your life. If you are interested in getting to know more about the power of music, check out the graphic below.

Materials and Techniques Used For Making Baseball Bats

When baseball games initially started, people used to hit balls with sticks and there were little or no regulations regarding its size and materials for quite a long time after it became an official sport. As time progressed and the game got popular, rules were made to make sure that every player has similar equipment and are not having an unfair advantage over their opponents.

Now, baseball is one of the most popular sports all over the world. There are millions of fans from around the world who watch baseball matches regularly. Baseball bats have created their own identity and due to their distinct shape, they stand out of the crowd. In professional leagues, players use wooden bats accepted by the governing body of the sport. Below 18 leagues and school-based tournaments allow composite bats, hybrid bats, and alloy bats as well. You can read the review about various bats made from different materials on websites like iBatReviews to find the bats that will be the right fit for you.

Baseball bats are made from a variety of materials the most popular being ash tree wood as they are durable, lightweight and flexible. Wooden bats are usually reserved for professional athletes and junior players usually use bats made from composites, alloys, and hybrids.

The following are a few maintenance tips for baseball bats that you can follow to make sure that your bat can last for a long time.

  • Make sure that you don’t use your bats in temperatures lower than 16 degrees Celsius as the cold temperature will make the wood to contract, which will eventually lower the durability of your bats. Also, make sure that you never store them in temperatures too hot or too cold.
  • After each swing of the bat, make sure that you rotate it ¼ turn. This will make sure that all the sides are getting evenly worn out. Every professional player does it to ensure the durability of their bats.
  • Avoid dragging your bat, hitting wet balls with it, using rubber cage balls and constantly pounding it on the ground as this reduces the overall life expectancy of the bats and can also result in premature wearing out and cracks.

How to buy the right bats?

  • The billets of the wood are stripped and cut into even-sized pieces. The ends of these pieces are then painted to prevent any kind of damage or decay. These wooden pieces are then sent to workshops.
  • Now the seasoning process starts, where the sap and gum from the wood are removed by the air-drying method. It can take 6 to 8 months to complete this process.
  • Now that the billets are dry, they are inspected for quality, if found right the bats will be shaped and sanded to meet the weight requirements and design. They are then matched by the order model sent by the team or player.
  • Once everything is checked, they are polished, branded and packed to be sent to the respective players and teams.
